Elyse Comer, OT

My purpose behind creating PACE Pediatric Therapies is to foster a therapeutic environment where healthcare, research and compassion come together to meet the child and his or her family where they are and provide the necessary supports to maximize each child’s participation, engagement, and independence in his or her community.

As a pediatric occupational therapist, my goal is to build authentic connections between each child and his or her family in order to maximize the efficiency and success of each therapy session.  I am able to provide highly individualized evidence-based interventions to meet each family’s priority goals. Meeting a family in the trenches and providing them with practical day to day strategies to increase their child’s participation, engagement, and independence fuels my passion for occupational therapy!

In high school, I was selected to be a ‘peer buddy’, which meant that my role was to support the social and emotional needs of another high school student during physical education class.  Initially, I was challenged with how to engage with and support a peer who was non-verbal, utilized assistive devices to walk, and required assistance for completing simple tasks. Throughout the semester, she taught me that the simple yet profound combination of connection, creativity, and compassion allowed her not only to participate but enjoy these experiences with peers.  Watching her engage with our peers just as any other adolescent would do fueled me to be the therapist I am today.
